Curl For Kids

Curl for Kids is Regina's youth curling program, for children in grades 4 - 8 who are interested in learning to play to sport.

Check out the information below, for what you can expect when your child becomes a member at the Callie.

Due to COVID-19, this year's program will have a maximum of 30 curlers. Register early to reserve your spot!

The program is designed for beginner curlers wanting to start a new sport, as well as intermediate curlers in the age range who want some extra ice time to practice their skills, and meet other curlers their age. Instructor lead sessions ensure our curlers are safe and learning and improving, while also having fun!

During the course of the season (October - March), particiapnts will learn rules of the game, curling ettiquette, and of course, the mechanics and physical skills it takes to become a pro curler in no time!

Each class, curlers will work on fundamental skills, including:

  • Sliding and rock delivery,
  • Sweeping
  • Strategy
  • Team work
  • Sportsmanship

As everyone gets familiar with the ice and general skills, we incorporate game play into the sessions - usually beginning in the third to fourth week for our newest students, and the second the third week for returning students.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Almost nothing! The Callie has broom and slider rentals for all our curlers free of charge, as a part of your membership with the club. The only required piece of equipment you need is clean running shoes, similiar to those that your child would use in a gym class at school.

We recommend that the Curlers come prepared for the elements, though. This means the stretchy pants (sweat pants, leggings, exercise pants, etc.) and warm clothing is recommended. Helmets are not required, however they are recommended, especially if your child is prone to accidents.

What's in it for New Curlers?

New curlers have the opportunity to meet other kids their age, learn hand eye coordination and balance skills, as well as understand the importance of sportsmanship, team work, and fair play. These skills not only make a great curler, but also transfer into a number of other sports and real life situations!

What's in it for Returning Curlers?

Now that your Returning Curlers understand the basics, this is a great opportunity for them to fine tune their skills, with instruction and feedback from real curlers. This is also a great chance for those who are looking to be more competitie to meet other curles who may be interested in forming a team outside of the program. Curl for Kids is a great supplement to Curlers in CurlRegina's Youth League, as they can apply what they learn to real game situations and use their knowledge and skills independantly.
